don't even know it. This would have a negative impact on your life and relationship. Moving on would seem very
difficult to do. Here is some information on how to get started.
What is Herpes?
Herpes is a virus commonly known as Herpes Simplex Virus of HSV. There are two types of this virus HSV-1, also
known as oral herpes, can cause cold sores and fever blisters around the mouth and on the face. HSV-2 is commonly
responsible for genital herpes outbreaks. This herpes simplex virus is a transmissible virus that can be delivered
from person to person through direct contact. Children will often have HSV-1 from early contact with an infested
adult. This virus will stay with the one who is infected for the rest of his/her life.
HSV-1 or the oral herpes causes blisters in and around the mouth. These viruses move in the body through small
cuts, scratches, or breaks in the skin or mucous membranes it can be spread through sharing of objects such as
toothbrushes or using the same utensils. The gestation period is about three to six days. Such virus is transmitted
from person to person and more possible to occur if blisters or wounds are present. Uninfected person who has
direct contact with someone infected maybe spread through touching or having exposed to the saliva. Adolescents and
adults often get exposed by skin contact but may get their first experience or outbreak just by kissing or sexual
contact may it be oral and/or genital.
Positive for Herpes
HSV-2 or genital herpes the infected person may have sores around the genitals or rectum or sores may occur in
other locations, these sores usually are found below the waist. The infection can only be spread during sexual
contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 virus.
How will you know if you are Positive for Herpes?
The following herpes signs and symptoms will occur
- Illness or flu like conditions such as fever, muscle pains
- Sores or multiple sores will appear around the mouth, lips, gums, throat, tongue, rectum, and genitals. These
blisters will break, leaving tender sores
- Presence of lymph nodes around the neck area
- Pain, itching, burning sensation on the affected area
Treatment for Herpes
Herpes is an incurable disease but there are medications that can be given to decrease and relieve pain and
shorten the healing time. There are antiviral medications that are FDA-approved namely Acyclovir, Valcyclovir and
Famciclovir but seek the advice first of a health care professional before taking these medications. There are also
over-the counter creams or ointments that be used for oral sores but not recommended for genital herpes. For severe
occurrences medications may also be administered through injection. Warm compress maybe given to ease out the pain
associated with genital sores or keep the area clean and dry to speed up the healing process
If you feel you are positive for herpes then you should take precautionary measures to prevent it from spreading
and infecting anyone with the HPV virus. Try to avoid any sexual or direct physical contact with other people like
oral sex, kissing, or other sexual activity. Avoid sharing of utensils, cups, towels or clothing. Try to use condom
as much as possible during the intercourse but it is not a guarantee you can still pass it through your partner
from the uncovered skin. Have proper nutrition and a balanced diet to boost up your immune system. If symptoms for
Herpes worsened then go and seek out the help of your medical health care professional. If the sore becomes very
painful and you have difficulty eating or drinking, this might be causing dehydration. Once your immune system is
weakened you are most likely susceptible to disease complications and infections.
